Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rick Springfield, Loverboy, Foghat, Dee Snider and April Wine are among the big name acts that will be featured at the 17th Annual RibFest, presented by Dollar Loan Center, May 29-June 1 at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds in Sioux Falls.

Rock & roll fans were treated with a once-in-a-lifetime experience at a charity concert to raise money for music education. KISS Honored at Rock Academy Saturday

The Brennan Rock & Roll Academy opened it’s doors the end of March 2013 for Boys & Girls Club members in Sioux Falls and has been making a splash ever since and making a difference in kids lives every day. Alice Cooper fires up kids for music

Rock star Alice Cooper, the long-time friend of Sioux Falls Rock and Roll Academy founder Chuck Brennan, took a detour from his sold-out nationwide tour to attend the ceremony dedicating the facility’s recording studio that honors him.
The “Welcome to My Nightmare Studio,” named after Cooper’s first solo album, will allow members of the Sioux Empire Boys and Girls Club to record their music. Read more here (with video)…

The ‘Real’ Alice Cooper

A Rock and Roll Hall of Famer comes to Sioux Falls, but not for a concert. Alice Cooper came to inspire kids to play music. Rock icon Cooper was all high fives and smiles today as he greeted kids at the Brennan Rock and Roll Academy. “I tell kids that if you want to be in a gang, be in a band. On first look it’s a typical red carpet. You’ve got the velvet rope and the adoring fans. Oh, but wait. Long Awaited Inductions & Surprises at Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, scheduled to air on HBO starting May 18, included surprising outbursts, long awaited recognition and performances by some of music’s most iconic representatives. “It was everything you expect when you put such a widely diverse group of musicians, performers and fans in a room together,” said Chuck Brennan, founder of Brennan Rock & Roll Academy and CEO of Dollar Loan Center. The Academy was one of two exclusive sponsors of the 2013 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Read more here…

Rock Stars Raise $1.3 Million For Youth Groups

Motley Crue is in the middle of a month long Australian tour, but front man Vince Neil took time out to come to Sioux Falls to raise money for the rock and roll academy and to encourage kids to get involved in music.

“The cool thing is the accomplishment of it. It could be ‘Mary had a little lamb,’ right? But if you play it on guitar or whatever, you go ‘oh, my God, I did it,” Neil said. Read more here (with video)…

Man Behind The Music

A series of concerts last week raised more than $1 million for the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire. The money is being used to fund the new Brennan Rock and Roll Academy in Sioux Falls.

We’ve been talking about the Brennan Rock & Roll Academy since the ‘ground-rocking’ event last October through the announcement of the grand opening week festivities, so I wanted to talk to Chuck Brennan, the founder of the Academy to find out more.

Alice Cooper Kicks Off South Dakota Rock Academy

To all the girls and boys, makin’ all that noise: Alice Cooper has found you some new toys.

The heavy metal icon was in South Dakota on Wednesday to help kick-off a 6,000-square-foot rock ‘n’ roll academy for local Boys & Girls Club members. Complete with a recording studio and performance space, the center will offer lessons and have all kinds of loud stuff — including a few high-end drum sets from Warrant guitarist Joey Allen and guitars from members of KISS.  Read more here…

Academy to help Boys and Girls Club Kids Rock ‘n’ Roll

Hundreds of local youths soon will get the opportunity to make their dreams of being part of a rock ’n’ roll band a reality.

A multimillion-dollar facility set to open next spring will offer members of the Boys and Girls Club of the Sioux Empire access to electric and bass guitars, drum kits, keyboards, lessons, mentors, a recording studio and stage for performances.  Read more here…

Sioux Falls Getting Rock & Roll Academy

Chuck Brennan, a former Sioux Falls Boys Club kid who has since had success as an entrepreneur, has struck the first chord with a donation of $100,000 and has committed funding nearly $3,000,000 to provide the rock & roll program to the kids at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire for the next 20 years. The Brennan Rock & Roll Academy will be located in a prime location on the historic Sioux Falls’ loop. Mr. Brennan grew up near 8th and Covell, less than a mile from the Historic Loop Plaza that he built with his business partner, Keith Bergh. As a kid, he used to ride his bike up to the construction site when they were building the original Hardee’s restaurant. As the years passed and the neighborhood started to decline he was thrilled to spearhead the development project that sparked an entire revitalization of the neighborhood.  Read more here…
